Bern/Brody/Rodach
A cult favorite of the 2003 Berlin Jazz Festival, the Bern/Brody/Rodach trio brings together the unlikely combination of accordion, trumpet, and electric guitar to create soundscapes of surprising lyricism and wit. Haunting the intersections of film music, ambient jazz, and New Jewish music, all three players are also composers and band leaders with their own unique individual voices.
The American accordionist Alan Bern is best known for his work with Brave Old World and Guy Klucevsek, with recordings on the Winter & Winter label. A Tsadik recording artist, Berlin-based trumpeter Paul Brody leads Tango Toy and Sadawi. Electric guitarist Michael Rodach has performed with Teo Macero, Bob Moses, David Moss, and Georgette Dee, among others, and records on Traumton.
The trio’s music reflects the musicians’ many years experience in theater and film music. Their atmospheric compositions are like stage sets framing improvised, free musical conversations. Sensual, emotional, and imaginative, the Bern/Brody/Rodach trio is an encounter of three curious musical souls meeting in out-of-the-way worlds of sound and feeling.
